| I went to my first
dog show in 1993. I was hooked! It was so exciting, you could feel it all
around you. Everyone runs around until the show starts and then everything
is so quiet, hoping the new shampoo they used and all the extra care given
to their Boxer will give them the edge to win......Oh well......There is
next week.......
My name is Brenda Nelson.
My husband, Mike, and I live in Laguna Beach, California. WoodsCove
(beach) is where our Boxers play and get into condition to show. My very
first Boxer, Ginger, was bought from a pet store....Yes we did! We had
to buy her. Her eyes told us "Take me home" and she stole our hearts
the first day we had her. We lost Ginger (Grandma) on October 2, 2003 at
11 years of age. She was bred once and whelped seven puppies. From
this litter we kept Cinnie, a plain red fawn bitch who we hoped would be
our first show girl. She really did love to show, but only took two reserves
and alot of first place ribbons. We bred her to a Jet Breaker son from
Hallmark and kept her son, Woods Cove Sunset Breaker. Shocka, as
he is called, is now 6 years old and in good health. Sadly, Cinnie passed
away on November 22, 2003 at nine years old. She had been so healthy all
her life and just quit eating. Maybe she was grieving for Ginger, her mom.
The vet said IBS and was treating her for that, including a transfusion.
So, that leaves us with four Boxers....Shocka, Kameron, and Emily, Kameron's
daughter. And now Ruby we got her from my good friend Sandy Greene of
Luton Boxers. She is a plain deep red red fawn with beautiful lines. She will be showing
more soon. Kameron, CH Barbary Lane Raspberry Beret, our one and only champion
to date, is almost 4 years old. Gary Steele insisted we take her home with
us, saying "She will win for you". I think he was tired of us losing and
win she did, finishing her championship at 14 months and 4 days old. Her
wins, all from the puppy classes, include:
-
34 First places
-
10 Reserve Winners
-
4 Best Puppy in Sweeps
-
6 Best of Winners
-
11 Best of Opposite Sex,
3 at Specialties
She was bred to Springbrook's
Night's Revels and whelped a litter of five. We kept Emily, WoodsCove
Love Comes 2 Town, also known as Monkey Girl. Emily, now 13 months
old, is being shown by Gary Steele and we hope she will become our first
homebred champion.
I would like to thank
our esteemed handler, Gary Steele, his wife Michelle, and their daughter
Kimberlie, as well as Amanda Giardino for always being the best you can
be and making our dream of a champion come true. |
